The Problem
Bolton Abbey had a legacy site that was underinvested in for several years, and they did not want to replace for at least 12 months.
The incumbent had built the site, and it was full of hacks and custom elements, making it hard for the client to update and make changes themselves. They were reliant on the incumbent for updates, which were slow and expensive.
The Solution
We began with a full UX and analytics review of the website, to identify changes required and to then allow the development team to assess the CMS and understand how changes could be made.
We produced a report with recommendations ranked by impact and ease of implementation due to our assessment of the legacy WordPress set-up.
The Outputs
- Site upgraded with a modern look and site navigation in line with user journeys, including simplification of site structure.
- Content levels increased to improve visibility and ranking
- CMS documented, and then training provided to give the internal team the ability to manage simple changes
Client given back control of site and visibility improved:
- Due to the content levels being increased, the visibility and ranking of the site was greatly improved
- After training, the client team was able to manage their own website again, allowing more frequent updating of content and cost savings
- Ultimately, the client has been able to delay a new site for at least 12 months, allowing this to be completed within the internal rebranding timeline
